AMCHP Releases Affordable Care Act Fact Sheets

The Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs (AMCHP) has recently released three new publications designed to assist state MCH programs in understanding and implementing key Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) provisions. These resources focus on provisions related to promoting medical homes, adolescent health, and children and youth with special health care needs.

Sickle Cell Disease Grants

The purpose of the Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and Hemoglobinopathies Initiative is to take a life course approach to enhance, improve, or expand the ability of State and local public health agencies and health care providers to provide quality care for screening, counseling, or health care services to individuals across their lifespan having sickle cell disease or are carriers of sickle cell with an emphasis on emerging populations. This initiative will establish seven cooperative agreements divided into two projects: Project 1. Six community-based projects; and Project 2. One national coordination and evaluation Center.

The estimated project period is four years, with the estimated average award ranging from $400,000-$700,000. The application deadline is January 18, 2011.

Public Health Genomics Meeting

The 4th National Conference on Genomics and Public Health will be held on December 8-10 in Bethesda, MD. The agenda will feature keynote presentations by leaders in the fields of genomics and public health, interactive plenary and break-out sessions, and scientific poster exhibits on genomics research and public health practice. Networking events are also planned for the evenings.

The Future of Genomic Medicine Conference

The fourth Future of Genomic Medicine conference will be held on March 3-4, 2011 in La Jolla, California, and will focus on the advances that are occurring in the field, which include whole genome and exome sequencing, new gene expression tests for routine medical practice, and consumer genomics. Cost to register is $95, and pre-registration ends on February 24th.
