Healthy People 2020 Public Comment: Open Now!

Share your ideas for Healthy People 2020! The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has charged the regional genetics and newborn screening collaboratives to measure and monitor Healthy People 2020 objectives. Healthy People provides science-based, 10-year objectives to improve the health of Americans. For 3 decades, Healthy People has established benchmarks and monitored progress in order to: 1) Encourage collaborations across communities and sectors; 2) Empower individuals toward making informed health decisions and; 3) Measure the impact of prevention activities. To assure that genetics and newborn screening service issues are included in Healthy People 2020 objectives, visit http://www.healthypeople.gov/2020/about/publicComment.aspx?source=govdelivery between October 15-November 2 and make public comment.

Call for Proposals for Invited Sessions at the Annual 2013 ASHG Meeting

ASHG members are invited to submit online proposals for Invited Scientific Sessions at the 2013 annual ASHG meeting in Boston, MA on October 22-26, 2013. The Program Committee especially encourages proposal submissions in such topics as advances in Mendelian genetics, methods or discovery in complex traits, population/comparative genomics, model systems in functional studies, WES or WGS in clinical or research settings, social issues, education, and more.

Call for Abstracts for Presentation at the ACMG Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting

Abstracts are now being accepted for presentations at the 2013 ACMG Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting on March 19-23, 2013. Genetics professionals (both ACMG members and non-members) are encouraged to submit abstracts. Abstracts may be selected for poster displays or platform presentations, and will be published online and distributed in electronic format to attendees of the ACMG Annual Meeting.

Call for Applications for the Genetics in Primary Care Institute’s Quality Improvement Project (GCPI-QI)

Applications are now being accepted for the Genetics in Primary Care Institute’s Quality Improvement Project. The aim of this project is to provide physicians and their staff with the necessary strategies, tools and resources to improve the provision of genetic services in primary care. Participation in this project requires a primary care practice team, which must be led by a physician and include 2 additional team members (i.e. nurse or other administrative/office staff).

Preference will be given to those applications received by November 12, 2012. On the 4th Tuesday at 3:00pm (EST) each month, one of the National Centers will discuss their current activities, available materials, and opportunities for technical assistance for MCHB grantees and state programs. The objective of this series is to provide grantees the opportunity to learn about the resources the National Centers have to offer.
