Webinar on: Clinical Applications of Whole Exome and Whole Genome Sequencing

Published by under Education

Whole exome and whole genome sequencing are two very new testing techniques that are poised to change the current paradigm of clinical genetic testing. To get ready for these up-and-coming tests, the WSGSC has organized a webinar series to discuss whole exome and whole genome sequencing and their potential applications. As the second speaker in this series, Naghmeh Dorrani, MS, CGC from the University of California, Los Angeles will discuss clinical applications of whole exome sequencing, and potential applications of whole genome sequencing.

Feel free to invite other colleagues who may be interested in this subject to join the webinar!

New On-line Cardiac Sonographers Training Course for CCHD Newborn Screening Follow-up from the Wisconsin SHINE project

Published by under Education

The Wisconsin SHINE Project (Screening Hearts in Newborns) is a pilot project through the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, the Medical College of Wisconsin and the State of Wisconsin designed to implement universal screening for CCHD.  Recently the SHINE Project launched an on-line training course for cardiac sonographers who may be called upon to perform an echocardiogram on a baby who has failed their pulse oximetry testing. “The Terrible Ten” is an overview of the anatomy, physiology, and echocardiography of critical congenital heart disease. Sonographers completing the course can earn 2 hours of RDMS credit at no cost.

As the first speaker in this series, Sarah Scollon, MS, CGC from the Texas Children’s Hospital (and formerly of the WSGSC!) will present an introduction to whole exome and whole genome sequencing. She will discuss the differences between the two tests, and provide background information on the two testing techniques.
